At the bottom of each record you view in our catalog, Minerva, you will find the location, call number, and availability information for the item. The purpose of this guide is to help you locate these items in the music library. See the record below for an example:

1st floor locations

MUSIC LIBRARY circulation desk : all sound recordings (CDs, LPs, etc.) and videorecordings (DVDs, VHS tapes) are available at the circulation desk. Please ask the staff member on duty to retrieve the item you need.

MUSIC LIBRARY reference area : the reference collection is located on the 1st floor on the bookshelves that surround the perimeter of the library.

MUSIC LIBRARY index table : the index table is located inside of the reference area on the first floor.

MUSIC LIBRARY reserves : items that have been placed on course reserve by the instructor are located at the circulation desk.

MUSIC LIBRARY archive room (restricted) : items that are located in the library's archive room have restricted access and do not circulate outside of the library. If you need access to an item in this room, please inquire at the circulation desk.

MUSIC LIBRARY cataloging dept. : if the item you need is located in the music cataloging dept., please make a request for it from the circulation desk. You will be notified when the item is ready for you to check out (usually later the same day, or the next day.)

2nd floor locations

MUSIC LIBRARY scores : located in the 2nd floor stacks.

MUSIC LIBRARY oversize scores : oversize scores are shelved separately from the regular size scores. The oversize scores are located to the far right of the music library as you exit the elevator.

MUSIC LIBRARY miniature scores : located on the 2nd floor, near the oversize scores.

MUSIC LIBRARY seminar area : items contained in the seminar collection do not circulate outside of the music library, except to SOM faculty. The seminar area is located in the northeast corner of the 2nd floor.

3rd floor locations

MUSIC LIBRARY books : located in the 3rd floor stacks

MUSIC LIBRARY periodicals : located to the left as you exit the elevator. Current issues of periodicals are shelved along the wall; previous issues are bound and are located in the stacks near the current issues.
