U.S. Naval Academy

The Naval Academy was founded in 1845 by the Secretary of the Navy, George Bancroft, in what is now historic Annapolis, MD. The history of the Academy has often reflected the history of the United States itself. As the U.S. Navy has moved from a fleet of sail and steam-powered ships to a high tech fleet of nuclear-powered submarines and surface ships as well as supersonic aircraft, the Academy has changed also. The Naval Academy gives young men and women the up-to-date academic and professional training needed to be effective naval and marine officers in their assignments after graduation. Professional Military Education
Professional Military Education
Professional military education (PME) is progressive levels of military education that prepares military officers for leadership. It includes various basic level courses for the new and junior officers, command and staff colleges for the mid-level officers, and war colleges for the senior officers. International students may attend most of these courses through the normal Security Assistance Training quota process, however, the command colleges as well as the war colleges are by-invitation-only, with each US Military Service deciding the invitation list. The sponsoring country is asked to provide only career personnel for these types of courses, and to meet the required rank/grade and ECL level criteria for each course of study. Examples of PME courses include the following (not a complete list): Infantry Officer Basic training, International Officer Intelligence Advance Training, International Officer Logistics Preparation training, and Combined Logistics Officer Advanced training, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College Officer Preparatory training, Command and General Staff Officer training, Army War College, Naval War College, and Air War College (Defense Security Cooperation Agency)
